First off, let’s be clear – I needed to write these tips to get myself in check, which is why I did some serious research over the weekend. Dressing workplace appropriate and professional, without dying a painful, sweaty, overheated death when you leave the building is HARD and the last few weeks I have been struggling in the mornings. The result? Panicking and pulling on something less-than-fashion-forward. Confession: I wore black tights TWICE last week.
So, I did a little closet reorganization last weekend to try and pull together some summer looks that I would be comfortable, but still cute. And threw my black tights to the very black depths of my closet… RIP until September, guys.
- Pencil Skirts or Die.
There is nothing worse than feeling overexposed or inappropriate at work. I try to keep my skirts at least knee length – but pencil skirts are my favorite. This black one I probably wear at least once a week, but I have a ton of coloured ones that I mix in. Just add a bodysuit and you are set!
- Wedge Sandals For the Win.
So much more comfy than the stilettos I’m wearing in this look – these shoes always last me about 2 hours into the workday before I slip into something a little more comfortable and a lot less cute. I don’t love wedge pumps, but there are a ton of cute wedge sandals out right now!
- Light, Airy Fabrics
This one is a silk blend, which means it breathes – unlike polyester. I find polyester doesn’t allow my skin to breath which eventually turn into me smelling… not great. I always check the fabric blends!
- Sundresses + Blazers = Love.
Who has a million sundresses hanging in their closet, never getting their fair share of summer because you don’t think they are workplace appropriate? I think pairing them with a blazer and some flat sandals is a comfortable, casual look that can easily transition from work to a dinner date.
- Long-Sleeve Skater Dresses!
I swear, the equivalent to wearing a sweatsuit at work. The long sleeves and flared skirt ensures you are covered, but still cute! Plus, you can eat as much sushi as you want at lunchtime – the flared skirt covers your tummy perfectly!
- Make the Chop
I’m talking about my hair! I have worn extensions pretty much since I came out of the womb, but was looking for a way to get a little more life out of each set (which are getting more and more expensive). My most recent set of extensions was getting a little ratty, so I decided to chop them – into a cute lob! If you wear extensions I seriously recommend this – it’s a fun way of getting a little more life out of your hair, while also getting to experiment with a new look. Bonus: so much easier to style, and way less hot during the summer!
If you guys have any other tips or suggestions that I should add in, let me know! I need all the help I can get in this department!
